About

Our Philosophy:

We are living in one of the most technologically advanced times of human history.  With that, though, come downsides.  People of all ages, and especially young learners, have become more separated from creating.  We scroll on our phones and grow more distant from our physical surroundings.  Children, and even adults, have lost basic motor and social skills. At Get Art, we have found a way to counter that.  Our goal is to combine our love of the arts and language learning into comprehensive, fun, and interactive courses that will change the way people view education.  Get Art is about valuing creativity all around us and using it, as our ancestors did, as a means of communication.  Not only will you learn one of the most valuable languages of the world, English, but you will also learn about creativity, and therefore yourself.

Chicago native Vanessa De Wig has a B.A. in Anthropology and a TEFL teaching certificate.  While in Chicago, Vanessa started teaching ESL to refugees and adult learners. In 2009, she moved to Poland to raise her son near his Polish family and continued teaching English to all ages, from young children to adults.  Courses ranged from General English and Reading classes to Business English and Cambridge Exam Prep.  She’s also given lectures at Kozminski University and run workshops for the American Corner in Radom.

In addition to teaching English, Vanessa has been an art teacher at a primary school in Warsaw for the past six years, where she has honed her skills in teaching Art and English simultaneously to young learners.  Vanessa has created a new art festival for the school every year for the past six years, bringing the whole school together to value and celebrate the arts.  Another way Vanessa has shared her passion is through the children’s book she co-created with Kimba Kerner titled ‘Mama, Please, Please, Please!’ which was sponsored by the American Embassy in Warsaw.  In her free time, Vanessa enjoys sketching, ink work, and collages.  She’s always trying to find ways to incorporate creativity and language into her life.

It’s Vanessa’s keen belief that Art is the most fundamental aspect of what it is to be human, and her goal is to share her philosophy whenever possible.
